This Gold Bar represents our support and deep love for Israel, our one and only Land.
Israel is the Land of our inheritance. In exile, after the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, the people yearned for the Land of Israel: "By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and we also wept, when we remembered Zion" (Psalms 137:1). Throughout the years, the Land of Israel has remained the Land of our prayers, hopes and dreams. Rabbi Judah Halevi, the famous poet and philosopher in 12th century Spain, expressed his ardent love and longing for Israel: "My heart is in the east, but I am in the end of the west". Through the generations, over a 2,000-year-long exile, the Jewish people longed for the realization of their hopes, to be able to return to the Land of their Fathers.
Today, after the establishment of the State of Israel, we continue to contend with our enemies and challenges against our very existence as a people and our right to live in peace in our country. Nevertheless, the strength of spirit of our people proves itself over and over again in times of crisis, as well as its capability to unite, recover and overcome all challenges. Against our enemies, we stand firm towards victory and go on building our Land, "a land flowing with milk and honey" (Exodus 3:8), our small and only country.
Many nations, greater and stronger than the people of Israel, have risen and fallen in history, despite their power and culture. Is it not a wonder that in spite of those who call for the destruction of our tiny, ancient people, we have remained and lived on from ancient times until today? We continue to realize the visions of the prophets of Israel and declare: "The People of Israel Lives On".
The "I Stand with Israel" Gold Bar will serve as a symbol of the unbreakable link between its holder and the Land of Israel, the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
